Eydon Mummers 1997 Play

Report on Christmas 1997 Performance.

This year, due to reduced numbers, the shortened play was used. This was based on a play written by John Cannell from various sources in December 1991 and first performed that year. Additional material has been added between then and now by the rest of the cast.

Two performances only this year, both on Boxing Day Lunch time, along with Royal Oak Morris dancing to Christmas Carols. First performance at the Marston Inn, Marston St Lawrence, followed by the Royal Oak at Eydon, with only just enough space to perform, such was the crush of people! £70 was collected at the two performances which will be donated this year to the Prince's Trust.

OLD MOLLY A fine (bearded) lady, very active with her broom! (Richard Tidmarsh)

BEELZEBUB Rather smartly turned out this year in a white tuxedo, complete with rather murderous cane (Tony Pellerin).

ST. GEORGE Very military in his new white tabard with red cross, wooden sword and a battered colander on his head (Matthew Tasker).

TURKISH KNIGHT A colourful chap in a red robe, waving a wooden scimitar (John Cannell).

DOCTOR Fresh from the operating room with bloodstained apron, ham accent and curly moustache. In the best medical tradition he carried a bag with much 'business', including his Gin bottle (Paul Southwell).

FOOL In traditional smock and battered felt hat, he carried a bag full of sound effects etc., and a not very traditional reindeer-headed hobby horse (Kevin Lodge).
